About AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test)

The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) twice a year to recruit officers in the Flying Branch, Ground Duty (Technical), and Ground Duty (Non-Technical) branches. It is one of the most popular exams for candidates aspiring to join the Indian Air Force as a Commissioned Officer.

Mode of Examination (AFCAT)

The AFCAT exam is conducted in online mode (computer-based test) and consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions.

🔹 AFCAT Exam Pattern (For All Branches except Technical):
📌 English – 25 Questions (75 Marks)
📌 General Awareness – 25 Questions (75 Marks)
📌 Numerical Ability – 18 Questions (54 Marks)
📌 Reasoning & Military Aptitude – 32 Questions (96 Marks)

🔹 EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test) – For Technical Candidates
📌 EKT (Only for Technical Branch Applicants) – 50 Questions (150 Marks)

Total Marks: 300 (AFCAT) + 150 (EKT for Technical Candidates)
Time Duration: 2 hours (AFCAT) + 45 minutes (EKT)

🕒 AFCAT: 2 Hours
🕒 EKT (for Technical Candidates): 45 Minutes

📌 Marking Scheme:
+3 marks for every correct answer
-1 mark for every wrong answer

Eligibility Criteria for AFCAT

🔹 Age Limit:

Branch Age Limit Marital Status
Flying Branch 20–24 years Unmarried
Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) 20–26 years Unmarried (Married candidates above 25 can apply but won’t get accommodation for spouse)

🔹 Educational Qualification:

  • For Flying Branch:
    📌 Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with Physics & Mathematics at 10+2 level OR B.E./B.Tech.
  • For Ground Duty (Technical):
    📌 B.E./B.Tech in relevant engineering fields.
  • For Ground Duty (Non-Technical):
    📌 Graduate degree in any discipline OR PG degree in relevant fields (like Administration, Logistics, Meteorology).

🔹 Nationality:

  • Must be an Indian citizen.

How to Apply for AFCAT Exam

1️⃣ Visit the AFCAT Website: afcat.cdac.in
2️⃣ Register & Fill Out Application Form: Enter personal, educational, and contact details.
3️⃣ Upload Required Documents:
Passport-size Photograph (10–50 KB, JPG)
Signature (10–50 KB, JPG)
Educational Qualification Certificates
Valid ID Proof (Aadhaar, Passport, etc.)
4️⃣ Pay the Application Fee:
₹250 for All Candidates
5️⃣ Submit & Download Confirmation: Print the confirmation page for reference.

📌 After Selection:

  • Flying Branch Cadets undergo training for 74 weeks at Air Force Academy (AFA), Hyderabad.
  • Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Cadets undergo training for 52 weeks at AFA, Hyderabad.
